Maybe most people are too young. I’m not young. I remember living in Canada BEFORE the rise of this “Conservatism.”
I keep seeing people talking about the Liberal government as though they have performed badly, that Canada somehow suffered under them. But ffs, the economics philosophy, that has hobbled us didn’t appear in 2015. It rolled onto the scene in 1984.
We have been getting ratcheted DOWN and down and down by tax and trade policy “reform” that began to dominate our politics more than 40 years ago. There used to be industry, there used to be well-paying union jobs, there used to be reasonable tax rates that funded all the services that have been cut and cut and cut and cut for four decades.
And yep, since all our political discourse is dominated by bullshit “tax cut” talk, by policies that in reality only help rich people and their corporations, winning seats in elections depends on turning that crank so the monkey on our back will dance.
But if you want progressive policies that could restore Canada’s once upon a time prosperity, if you want parties to run on and implement those policies, then people have to stop voting for parties that poLIEvre about them all the time to exploit ignorant rage for political capital.
You want things to get better? Then the parties pumping this essentially Republican (“Conservative”) ideology, they have to get utterly ruined in EVERY election. They have to consistently lose so badly that they can no longer dominate our political discourse with their cynical disinformation and propaganda.
And if you want a prosperous Canadian future, and you can vote, then it is your job, your moral responsibility, to get to a polling station and help make sure your MPP seat does NOT go to a MAGA-licking POS.
