Kids are Authors: No Kids Allowed!

Kids are Authors is a program run by Scholastic in Canada. Elementary-school classes across the country submit stories that they have written and illustrated. One submission is chosen for publication. I have been the designer on the 2007 and 2008 books. This is always a challenging and fun project. The student materials need to be adapted so that they work as a publishable book, while remaining as "true" to the originals as possible. Laying out the interiors and coming up with a cover are an exercise in collage and discression.
